The Path of Christ

The Path of Christ

“Say to the daughter of Zion, behold your king is coming to you, humble, and mounted on a donkey, and on a colt, the foal of a beast of burden”. (Matthew 21:5)

Jesus’ triumphal entry to Jerusalem must draw our minds to several things, this is not just a match to Jerusalem but an entry to show who Jesus really is and what he wanted to make home with this triumphal entry to Jerusalem. He is the one going to carry all our burden, he is a man of peace, and he has come to give us the peace which surpasses all understanding, demonstration of God’s blessings to his people, he is the one Zechariah wrote about in Zechariah 9:9, he is the one we should talk to people about, Jesus portrayed humility, giving up everything in order to save man, his unending love for man and many more.

Jesus Christ sent two of his disciples to go into the village facing them and when they get there immediately, they will find an ass tied and a colt with her, and this was the instruction “untie them and bring them to me”. Brethren, the salvation of Jesus Christ is to untie us from all shackles of the enemy which prevents us from moving towards the right direction. Jesus will untie you, he will untie me, and we shall be free to move and meet him. You will have people asking questions about who you are, what your purpose is, but always know that Jesus is always making it clear to you and me that he has need of us.

“If anyone says anything to you, you shall say the Lord has need of them and he will send them immediately” (Matthew 21:3)

Jesus will have need of us when we allow him into our lives and direct our path. The ass gave itself up to Jesus and allowed Jesus to direct it and because Jesus was sitting on the ass people laid clothes on the floor and it was the ass the walked on it because Jesus was sitting on the ass. When we allow him into our lives, we will never be the same because he is in us. The ass had the honour and privilege to carry Jesus triumphantly into Jerusalem our part beloved in Christ, is to also carry him to our homes, workplaces, and wherever we find ourselves.

“Who, though he was in the form of God, did not count equality with God a thing to be grasped, but made himself nothing, taking the form of a servant, being born in the likeness of men.” (Philippians 2:6-7)

This is the kind of humility that God expects from us as Christians that whoever we are, be it powerful or not we must put all of it aside and fall under the authority of God. The ability to strip ourselves of all titles, wealth, status etc and be willing to humbly come under the power of God and allow him to use us the way he pleases, giving up everything to face shame, disrespect, maligning, being dragged in the mud and yet still being humble. This is what Jesus Christ showed us.

“I gave my back to those who strike, and my cheeks to those who pull out the beard; I hid not my face from disgrace and spitting.” (Isaiah 50:6)

Beloved, this is very difficult to do because we are human, and we will naturally react when something unpleasant happens to us, but Jesus has shown us that he is with us and will take us through it. Beloved in Christ, our ability to do this, exhibits humility, love, peace, concord and will lead to experiencing the blessings and glory of God in our lives.

Philippians 2:9-11 says, “Therefore God has highly exalted him and bestowed on him the name that is above every name, so that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.”

Jesus Christ has demonstrated to us the need for us to be humble, allow him into our lives to be in charge, always seek for peace, proclaim him to the world as the Messiah, empty ourselves and strip ourselves of all titles, status etc and we will be glorified in his name. Amen.
