Have Faith

“Jesus said to him, “Have you believed because you have seen me? Blessed are those who have not seen and yet have believed.” (John 20:29)

Faith is key in the Christian journey and without it we cannot consider ourselves to be Christians. Hebrews 11:6 says,

“But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him”.

It is important to note that the actions of Thomas in looking for evidence before accepting the authenticity of the resurrection of Jesus Christ, is what can be termed as the nature of man. We will do same if we find ourselves in Thomas’ shoes, and indeed sometimes we continue to doubt the power and authority of God in making things happen in our lives. Today, we look at Thomas and we can say without doubts that Jesus did rise from the dead and appeared to his disciples in his physical body. We look at Thomas today and we see an unbeliever who was humbled by the resurrection of Jesus and proclaimed him as his Lord and God.

We all doubt at certain times especially when we find ourselves in very difficult situations and get the feeling that we are alone or think that there is no possible solution to the problems we face. This makes it clear to us that Jesus is the solution and so we must have faith in him. This is the time we are called upon to remain faithful to the teachings of Christ, breaking bread together and praying together. As Christians we are called to fellowship and this helps us to experience presence of God together, share his word, testimonies, pray and grow our faith together. The unity of the apostles made them live together and share whatever they had, and this strengthened them in faith, so the Spirit of God used them to perform miracles and signs, and this made a deep impression on everyone. The apostles were always in fellowship and love, and this made them stronger in faith. In growing our faith in the Lord, we must not do away with fellowship, coming together as the body of Christ, sharing testimonies and praying to support one another then Jesus will come into our midst. Our faith must grow and if it fails to grow it dies and it will be impossible to please God because faith is our lifeblood as Christians.

Faith must grow and doing that is not an easy task we will go through trials, and this is when we get our faith tested, we will go through struggles, torments, and fire. This will refine us, make us experience the new birth the resurrection of Jesus presents to us, and we will be able to grow in faith. My dear brothers and sisters, when we go through these trials, we should never stop being thankful to the Lord. 

“Praise the Lord! Oh, give thanks to the Lord, for he is good, for his steadfast love endures for ever!” (Psalm 106:1)

The love of God has no end, you will go through struggles but always know that he loves you and will take you through it and our faith will grow and become stronger. 

When we have faith the peace of God which surpasses all understanding will continue to dwell in our hearts. Whenever Jesus came into the midst of his disciples, he gave his peace, and this is the peace he gives us when we continue to walk with him in faith. He will then breathe on us his Spirit and send us out and give us authority. 

“You did not see him, yet you love him; and still without seeing him, you are already filled with joy so glorious that it cannot be described, because you believe;” (1 Peter 1:8) 

Faith is our key as Christians and we must go through trials, fellowship, share, pray, be united and love one another so that we can grow in faith for the peace of God to dwell amongst us.
